Northeast Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP), has commenced the distribution of transitional support packages to 8,960 vulnerable people in eight local government areas of Yobe state.
Flagging off the distribution on Thursday in Damaturu, the Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana, said the state would partner with the MCRP to provide more interventions to vulnerable communities.

for the successful implementation of its project in the state.
“I wish to state here that, with the restoration of peace in the state, greater percentages of the Internally Displaced Persons have returned to their communities” he said.
He solicited for more interventions, especially of building materials, to assist the returnees.
The Coordinator of the MCRP in Yobe state, Musa Idi Jidawa, explained that the project is a World Bank programme designed to improve livelihood of communities affected by Boko haram insurgency.
“This will also facilitate recovery from the negative effects of Boko Haram conflict, strengthen social cohesion, and rehabilitate infrastructure,” he said.
“Under the transitional support, we are reaching out to 8,960 beneficiaries in the eight local government areas of Gujba, Gulani, Fika, Potiskum, Damaturu, Tarmuwa, Geidam and Yunusari apart from 78 communities selected to form peace groups”.
He said the beneficiaries, who are mostly women, were targeted through vulnerability criteria application that is socially inclusive, pro-poor and transparent, with local community participation in beneficiaries’ selection and third party validation.
Items distributed comprises of mattresses, cooking wares, hygiene kits, mosquito nets, fertilizer, non-motorised machines to re-start quick to market trading among others.
