Mr. Aminu Manya Achida, representing Wurno Constituency, has emerged the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly.
Achida, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress was nominated by a lawmaker from the Peoples Democratic Party, who are in the minority in ninth Assembly.
Achida was nominated by Ibrahim Arzika Sarki (Sokoto North ll) and the nomination was seconded by Faruk Mustapha Balle (Gudu).
He defeated Abdullahi Sidi (APC- Gwadabawa South) in a close contest supervised by the Acting Clerk of the Assembly, Abdulrazak Shehu.

Achida scored 16 votes to defeat Sidi, who scored 13 votes while one vote was declared invalid.
Similarly, the state Assembly members elected Abubakar Magaji (PDP- Bodinga North), as the Deputy Speaker.
In his address, the new Speaker while commending the members for giving him the opportunity to serve in that capacity, assured them of better leadership for the overall development of the state.
