Yet to be identified thugs at the early hours of yesterday set ablaze the zonal APC campaign office of Senator Gwanda Gobir, within Sokoto metropolis.
The party office of the senator representing Sokoto East, was located along the Gandu areas opposite vegetable market and a stone-throw away from Runjin Sambo roundabout and before Pepsi Cola areas, Kara, within the Sokoto North local government.
Briefing newsmen on the development, the senator who said the office was burnt at about 3-4am, also advised Nigerians to play politics according to the rule of the game with maturity and love for one another, even as he expressed fears over how the polity is been heated ahead of 2015.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on media, Al-Mustapha Hamza, Senator Gobir decried that the burning down of party structures was simply a bad omen for the nation comes 2015.
“Until something is done to check the situation, it will appear that the 2015 election will be chaotic,” Senator Gobir observed.
The senator said the 2015 general elections maybe chaotic and deadly if the recent rave of political upheavals orchestrated by hired thugs is not adequately addressed.
Quantifying the degree of lost incurred, the Senator said, the total worth of what was destroyed by the fire should be about N15million.
Among items razed to ashes by the inferno, Hamza noted, include pieces of furniture, stationeries, computers and many others which could be ascertained at the time of preliminary assessment.
The senator, however, urged APC supporters in the state to remain calm and hold their peace since security personnel are on top of the situation.
Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, Sha’aibu Lawal confirmed the fire incident, just as he assured that investigation to unravel the perpetrators has already begun.
The CP further noted that the security man of the office (popularly known as gateman) is currently assisting the police in its investigations.
When LEADERSHIP Sunday visited the scene, a spectator who prefers anonymity said, the act could be reprisal from youths within the Kara areas considering the fact that, a make shift office belonging to the PDP was equally burnt within the area two days before the incident.
