Officials of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) have arrested six pickpockets at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) during a prayer session organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). Its Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Afolabi Olawale, said during one of its regular motorised patrols, the LNSC team received a distress call about the activities of the gang at the venue of the prayer session and swung into action immediately. Olawale said with the cooperation of members of the church, two members of the gang were apprehended and taken into custody for interrogation.
The suspects, according to him, are Rahman Mogaji (32), Timileyin Olusegun (21), Adeyinka Oduwoye (28), Kehinde Imutola (35), Temitope Agboola (20) and Dare Abiodun (20). Olawale said that their arrest and interrogation led to the apprehension of four other members of the gang.
The Public Affairs Officer added that the suspects had all confessed to be involved in pickpocketing, stealing and burglary on Lagos Island. He said: “It was also observed during interrogation, that all the suspects have one or two marks in different colorations, and identifications similar to the marks common among cult members and this made LNSC to hand over the suspects to Lion Building Police Station for further interrogation and possible prosecution.”
Meanwhile, the LNSC Chairman, DIG Israel Ajao (rtd), told journalists that the organisation “was not established to harass anyone but to protect all and sundry in line with the policy of the present administration in the state which is centred on the people.
