Nigeria has moved from military rule to the democratic system of government. However, some events makes one wonder if her citizens are now truly free.
Nigerian rapper, Falz, has condemned the Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje on social media. He slammed the governor for being allegedly responsible for the jailing of a singer from his state, Mohammed Yusuf, who allegedly mocked him in a song.
According to Falz, it is shameful to see public officers use the machinery of the state to harass citizens.
The rapper also explained that any individual who feels defamed by the statement of another can sue for libel or slander under the law of defamation. He also added that justice should be gotten for the musician and anybody with information about him should reach out.
Falz wrote: “HATE to see stuff like this! This is 2019. Any individual who feels defamed by any statement made by another person can sue for libel or slander under the law of defamation. It is shameful to see public officers using the machinery of the state to harass citizens and attempting to hinder our inalienable freedom of expression.
“Anyone who knows the musician Mohammed Yusuf personally should please get in touch with me. We NEED to contend this unjust sentence. #JusticeForMohammed”

Legit.ng previously reported that the singer, Mohammed, was arrested by the police on Monday, June 17 and arraigned before magistrate court at 72 Noman’s Land in Kano, presided by Aminu Gabari.
It was gathered that the court found Yusuf guilty of three-count charges: releasing a song without the approval of the Kano state Censorship Board, releasing a video without obtaining approval and defamation of the character of Governor Ganduje.
In the said hit song, the singer had stated that the governor can sell his wife, Goggo, because of money.
Some lines in the song read: “Kano governor has already turned blind, I swear what you did is hurting us, for lucre, governor is more than a thief, for lucre, governor can sell out Goggo.”
