The House has also adjourned plenary till July 2 to enable lawmakers sort out their accommodation and complete relocation processes.

The committees announced by the speaker after the executive session that lasted for over four hours, include ad-hoc committee on media, committee on selection, committee on welfare and committee on rules and business.

The media committee is headed by former minister of state for foreign affairs, Hon. Khadijat Bukar Abba-Ibrahim (APC, Yobe) with Hon. (Prof) Julius Ihovbere (APC, Edo), Hon. Sada Soli (APC, Katsina), Hon. Francis Agbo (PDP, Benue), Hon. Luke Onofiong and Hon. Abubakar Fulata (APC, Jigawa) as members.

Other members of the media committee include Hon. Bamidele Salam (PDP, Osun), Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi (APC, Plateau), Hon. Abubakar Yusuf Ahmed (APC, Gombe), Hon. Lynda Chuba Ikpeazu (PDP, Anambra) and Hon. Leke Abejide (ADC, Kogi).

Earlier, before dissolving into the executive session, the new speaker, who had to lecture some of the new lawmakers on how to raise a point of order or move a motion, directed the clerk of the House to write the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, and ask him to notify the president of his election and that of Hon. Ahmed Idris as speaker and deputy speaker respectively.

He said the letter should inform the president that the House of Representatives is now properly constituted and ready to receive communications from his office.

Briefing the media after the closed door session, chairman of the media committee, Abba-Ibrahim disclosed that the other three ad hoc committees: rules and business, welfare and selection would meet and appoint a leader among them.

“Today, we stand united, although we are from different political parties. We agree that we will remain one House because the speaker emerged on the platform of joint task. We are going to close all platforms and form only one WhatsApp platform where all members will be added to share information and communicate with one another,” Abba-Ibrahim said.
