General elections: Over 100000 PVCs uncollected in Yobe

Less than forty days to Nigerian general elections, with all the
sensitization campaigns in media houses and the Civil Society
Organizations CSO, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC
in Yobe has, said over 100,000 Permanent Voter’s Card PVCs are still
unclaimed in the state.

The INEC Resident Commissioner, Ahmad Makama who disclosed this to
blueprint on Tuesday expressed dismay over the unhealthy
development.

“To be frank with you am not quiet impressed with the turn out of
voters collecting their PVCs. It baffles me considering that they came
physically to register and cannot come back to collect their PVCs.

“During the last count, over 100,000 PVCs were unclaimed, remember
election ballot papers are printed according to the number of
registered voters, any shortfall it’s a waste”, he said.

Makama further, said with the efforts being put in place, in the
subsequent days, the story may change for better.

Blueprint gathered, the first set of training, “training the trainers”
was on going after which those trained will step down to those in the
local government councils to train the larger adhoc staff.

The Resident Commissioner also cautioned those buying PVCs to desist
from the act as such persons may end up not using them adding that there
are features on the voter’s cards which must be checked before one is
allowed to vote.
