Government reacts to rumour of killer vaccinators in Yobe

The Yobe State government has dispelled rumour of fake vaccines and killer vaccinators allegedly going round primary schools in the state capital to vaccinate pupils, a situation which has forced four schools in the capital, Damaturu to shut down.

Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr. Muhammad Bello Kawuwa said, “Following alleged rumours of vaccinators in the state capital, Damaturu, the State Health Ministry visited all the alleged schools and confirmed that no such incident happened in the four schools falsely reported that the activities have taken place”.

He, therefore, called on all parents to allow their wards to go back to their respective schools today, Tuesday 10th October, 2017 as government has put in place all the necessary measures to forestall the spread of similar rumour in future.

Kawuwa also said, “a meeting were conveyed first by the Damaturu local government emirate with the headmasters of the affected schools and later emergency security meeting in which all information gathered shows that the rumours were baseless”

Earlier, the Executive Chairman of Damaturu local government, Alhaji Bulama Madu, had also called for a press briefing, describing the rumour as baseless.

He said with this development, the proposed immunization slated for 11th October, 2017 throughout the state may be shifted after stakeholders meeting slatedto hold later today.
