Kaduna Corporate League: Unity Bank Win 7th Edition

Unity Bank emerged winners of the seventh edition of the Kaduna Corporate League Cup after defeating UBA 1-0 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium (ABS), Kaduna at the weekend. The only goal of the match was scored by the tournament’s highest goal scorer, Aliyu Mohammed in the 33rd minute.

Fidelity Bank finished third after walking over Access Bank who failed to show up for the third place match, CBN defeated Zenith Bank to place fifth in the classification match, leaving the sixth position to Zenith Bank, First Bank also walked over FCMB to clinch the seventh spot, while Microcred finished ninth.

Best goalkeeper went to Aliyu Mohammed of  Unity. Other awards are Best Defender, Sam Audu of UBA, Best Midfielder, Nuhu Mohammed of Access Bank, Highest Goal Scorer, Aliyu Mohammed of Unity, Best Coach Aminu Surajo of Unity, Most Valuable Player, Rafeal Etah of UBA.

In 100metres sprint for men, Henry Akhilo of UBA came first, Sherif Ganiyu of Skye Bank finished second, while Emannuel Ufua of UBA plced third. In the women category Aisha Mayaki of UBA came first, Margaret Alabi of Skye came second, while Amina Alfa of Skye Bank came third.

As part of activities for the closing ceremony, the President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alh Aminu Maigari was presented with an award of excellence for success recorded by his administration so far. Award was also given to Mr chuks Obasi MD, Bestway Sports, Mr Daniel Ogbonna,  MD of Wadson Sports International  and Hon Abdulahi Babawo for their support and encouragement to the tournament. Fidelity Bank was given a certificate for being the most consistent team in terms of participation.

The coordinator of the tournament, Mr Vincent Akinbami said the objective of the tournament was to bring comradeship among staff of banks and to encourage them to participate in exercise as well as entice them into sponsoring grassroots sports within the state.

He ended his speech by saying that the objective of bringing about comradeship has been met, adding that the next level is to see them sponsoring grassroots tournament within Kaduna State.

Masai Ujiri, GM of the Denver Nuggets and facilitator Giants of Africa also sent words of commendation to Ahmedu while Ugo Udezue of BDA, one of Africa’s top agents in the USA, Rich Shuebrooks of Nike and the Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA where Ahmedu  served as scout  between 2006 and 2009 said he deserved he award.

Ahmedu,  a retired Army lawyer, who is the proprietor of the Dodan Warriors Basketball  Programme, has continued to blaze the trail in the game where he has dedicated his life as a  player and administrator since coming in contact with the sport at Dodan Obalende since 1967.
