The Kebbi State Fire Service Department said it has recorded 46 fire incidents and seven deaths within four months in the state.
The Director of the fire department,Alhaji Bello Zagga disclosed this to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
He said: “From January to April 2019, we have recorded 46 fire incidents and seven deaths.”
He advised the people to be cautious in handling electrical appliances and other inflammable items to avoid fire incidences.
“Most of the fire incidents we have recorded were as a result of electrical appliances, electricity upsurge or improper use of inflammable items,” Zagga said.
Bello also attributed incessant fire outbreaks in the state to human carelessness, wrong wiring and using substandard wires or cables amongst others.
He also said lack of fire-fighting trucks and equipment was hampering its ability to respond quickly to distress calls in the state.
Bello said that the fire department did not have a fully functional vehicle that could quickly respond to fire distress calls.
“The fire department is only managing three old trucks out of nine trucks which are grounded,’’ he said.
