Malaria Kills Students in Kebbi

Birnin Kebbi — Medical officers from the Kebbi State Ministry of Health are investigating the death of three students of the Kanta Unity Secondary School in Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State who were reported to have died of a disease similar to malaria.

The state Commissioner for Education, Abdulmumin Samaila Kamba, said yesterday in Birnin Kebbi that a team of health personnel from the ministry have been mobilized to the school for investigation.

“Three students lost their lives, one from Katsina and the two from Kebbi State. We did not know the cause of their death at the initial stage until personnel from the Ministry of Health and the Doctors without Borders confirmed that the death was as a result of high malaria.

They are still carrying out further medical investigations in the school and other students who took ill are responding to treatment,” the commissioner said. Principal of the school, Bala Yaldu, declined comment on the situation.
