The league body is determined to stop hooliganism in Nigerian football.

The Nigeria National League, NNL, has fined Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan N200, 000 for an alleged physical assault on match officials during its last home tie against Prime FC of Ogbomoso.

According to a press release from the club, the letter conveying the sanctions to the management of Shooting Stars and signed by the NNL secretary, Lawrence Katken, said that the official match reports indicated that Ibadan fans manhandled the officials before the commencement of the encounter, while the match referee was again assaulted after the game.

The NNL said 3SC flouted the rules and regulations of the game and would, therefore, pay a fine of N200, 000, within three weeks. The Oyo State Football Association and Shooting Stars management were asked, henceforth, to provide adequate security before, during and after their home games or face stiffer fines.

The sanction on Shooting Stars will bring the number of clubs so far reprimanded by NNL this season to three. Other clubs sanctioned earlier were Jigawa Golden Stars and Abia Comets.
