The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reversed its position on the Adamawa State chapter of the party, converting its earlier dissolution of the state party executive to a one-month suspension.
Similarly, the party has also reversed its dissolution of the Ebonyi State party executive.
The PDP therefore said the deputy state chairman of the party in Adamawa State, Jingi Rufai, is to serve as acting chairman while Fatai Ornah will be acting secretary while in Ebonyi State, Onwe Joseph Onwe is to serve as acting chairman and Simon Anyigor is to serve as acting secretary.
PDP said its decision to backtrack on its earlier dissolution of the party in the state was in the light of the appeals and interventions of critical stakeholders as well as the remorse demonstrated by the executives and resolved accordingly.
By this decision, the national party has recalled the caretaker committees it set up for the states. The PDP had on Thursday sworn-in a caretaker committee led by Amb Umar El-Gash to oversee the PDP in Adamawa State.
The decision of the PDP on the Adamawa EXCO came barely 24 hours after 23 PDP members of the House of Assembly threatened to defect to the APC.
The national working committee of the PDP had on Tuesday dissolved the Adamawa and Ebonyi state chapters of the party citing grave and inimical actions of the party EXCOs which bothered on the publication of results from the November 1 ward congresses.
However, a statement by the national publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh said, “the national working committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its 392nd meeting reviewed the state of the party in Adamawa and Ebonyi states in the light of the appeals and interventions of critical stakeholders together with the remorse demonstrated by the executives and resolved accordingly.”
He said the party decided to “commute the dissolution of the Adamawa and Ebonyi states executive committees to the one-month suspension of the authors of the offensive publications, in particular Chief Joel Madaki, state chairman and Barr A.T. Shehu, secretary of the party in Adamawa State; Uche Ali Ega, state secretary and Amaechi Oken, state organising secretary of the party in Ebonyi State and one Mr Ben Akpa.
Meanwhile, the NWC has cancelled the ward congresses in Lagos, Cross River and Oyo states for repeat congresses to hold on Monday, November 24.
