Sokoto laments as bandits kill two police

The police in Sokoto State  on Wednesday confirmed the killing of two policemen by suspected bandits.

Addressing a press conference in Sokoto,  the state Commissioner of Police, Aminu Koji,   said Abdullahi Maisaje,  an Assistant Superintendent of Police,   and Sergeant  Usman Ibrahim, were killed on Friday   by unknown gunmen  who  ambushed them  on their way to  Isa Local Government Area ahead of Saturday’s  governorship and House of Assembly elections.

The  CP, who mourned the death of the officers, said the force had lost “gallant officers”.

He said, “I commiserate with the families of the deceased and the entire force for this great loss. We take solace in the fact that they lost their lives in the service of their fatherland.”

The state government also  lamented the killing of the officers, saying the country would miss them.

The state government  gave  their families  N1m  for their burial.

Koji handed over the cash to their widows on behalf of the state government.
