The outbreak of a strange disease has forced the authorities to close down the Kanta Unity Secondary School in Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, where some students had already died.
Health authorities from the state said they were yet to identify the disease which had symptoms of malaria, but some of the students confided in journalists that at night, they were seriously disturbed by strange noise around the school compound and the movement of horses which were never seen.
“A team of health personnel from the ministry has been mobilised to the school for investigation,” the state Commissioner for Education, Abdulmumin Samaila Kamba said.
He said “three students lost their lives, one from Katsina and two from Kebbi State. We do not know the cause of their death at the initial stage until personnel from the Ministry of Health and doctors confirmed that the death was as a result of high malaria.”
However, the situation degenerated over the weekend, forcing the state government to temporarily close down the school and asked the students to return home.
