Students of Federal Government College in Buni Yadi, Yobe State attacked and killed while they slept
| February 26, 2014
At about 2am, Tuesday Feb 25, while they slept, students of Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, Yobe State were awakened by the sound of gunfire from suspected Boko Haram terrorists who had stormed their school. Estimates suggest that over 40 students were killed and some femaile students were abducted.

The terrorists had set fire to the administrative block, moved on to the hostels where pupils were fast asleep and shut the gates. They set hostels and classrooms on fire and started shooting. The students tried to escape through the windows and some were shot or had their throats slit or got burnt from the fire in the hostel.

A spokesperson of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Damaturu confirmed the attack on the school college by suspected terrorists, but did not give the number of casualties. .

Responding to the attack, a statement from President Goodluck Jonathan said, “The President wholly condemns the heinous, brutal and mindless killing of the guiltless students by deranged terrorists and fanatics who have clearly lost all human morality and descended to bestiality.

“He assures the nation that his administration will not relent in its ongoing efforts to end the scourge of terrorism in parts of the country which has sadly claimed more innocent lives today.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies will continue to prosecute the war against terror with full vigour, diligence and determination until the dark cloud of mass murder and destruction of lives and property is permanently removed from our horizon.”

The day before in a media chat, President Goodluck Jonathan said Boko Haram attacks in Nigerian were “quite worrisome”, but “we will get over it.”
