Yobe Killings – Bauchi Receives 200 Students

The Federal Ministry of Education has explained that over 200 staff and students transferred from the high risk security areas had arrived the Federal Government Girls College, Bauchi after the closure of their schools by the federal government over insecurity in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States.

The Coordinating Officer, Inspectorate Unit, Federal Ministry of Education, Bauchi State office, Mallam Muhammad Tajuddeen Abdullahi, who disclosed this yesterday, while answering questions from journalists in Bauchi, said parents and students complied with the directives of the federal government regarding students, moving to Federal Government Girls’ College, Bauchi and Federal Government College, Azare in Bauchi State.

Tajuddeen said: “At the Federal Government Girls’ College, Bauchi, over 200 students had arrived the college and some teachers and student were accommodated because of the good arrangement made for them by the principal of the school.”

When journalists visited the Federal Government Girls’ College, Bauchi, the Principal, Hajiya Aisha Altine Sheji, had travelled to Abuja on official assignment. A staff of the college, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed that they received students with majority of them from the Federal Government Girls’ College, Potiskum, Yobe State.

According to her, “even before their coming, our principal had completed arrangements to receive them. We had made contingency plans in respect of classrooms and hostel accommodation in anticipation of the transferred students, such as the adjustment of classrooms and hostel accommodation, and they were accommodated immediately they arrived.”

She said: “Before their coming, we had 35 students in our classrooms, now that they came, we have moved them to between 40-45, which is still adequate and conducive for teaching and learning.”
